Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies: Master en Sciences Humaines et Sociales, Orientation "Migration et Citoyenneté"

Le plan d'études du Master en Sciences Humaines et Sociales en orientation « Migration et Citoyenneté » de l'Institut SFM (Forum Suisse pour l’étude sur les Migrations et la population) s'inscrit dans le pilier Sciences Humaines et Sociales de la faculté des lettres et sciences humaines. Comme toutes les orientations, elle peut être suivie à raison de 30, 60 ou 90 ECTS et peut être renforcée par un bloc libre à 30 ECTS (menant à un MA de 120 ECTS).
L’orientation en migration et citoyenneté aborde de manière interdisciplinaire deux questions essentielles de la société moderne : la mobilité des personnes et l’intégration socio-économique et politique de nos sociétés. Ces questions sont intrinsèquement liées à l’organisation future des états-nations, leurs interconnexions avec des phénomènes transnationaux des personnes et de l’économie (Informations :

PhD Program Design: The Amsterdam School PhD program is designed to provide  students with the training, and experience to develop and communicate original scholarly contributions in the fields of sociology, political science and anthropology. The program offers specialized training in the fundamentals of sociological, anthropological and political science theory and methods, substantive areas of knowledge, the conduct of research, and the teaching and application, as well as skills in academic writing. Comparative Study on Policies towards Foreign Graduates. Study on Admission and Retention Policies towards Foreign Students in Industrialised Countries. The objective of this report is to provide a comparative analysis of admission and retention policies towards foreign students in selected industrialised countries. The report was finalised in October 2006. The study covers the following countries in detail: Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA, and the United Kingdom. is currently looking for one PhD-researcher for the Doctoral Programme ‘Markets and Social Space in Europe’ lead by Professor Richard Muench.

The program’s goal is the interdisciplinary assessment of the development of markets and social systems in the context of global competition, European regulation and national traditions. The focus is on research themes originating from the fields of sociology and political science, private and economic law, labour and social law, social politics (economics), finance and international management.

is currently looking for three PhD-researchers to participate in the /Wired Up/ programme. This international research project, funded by Utrecht University through the prestigious High Potential Programme, investigates how new digital media practices involving the Internet impact on the lives, identities, learning and socialization of migrant youth. The research focuses on a) identity construction and global representations, b) development of new learning strategies and socialization patterns, c) new forms of digital literacy and youth networks, and d) differences and similarities of these dynamics in a
cross-national comparison. /Wired Up/ is an international, interdisciplinary collaborative project between the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Vanderbilt University, USA, is also taking part in the project. Project leaders are Dr. M.J. de Haan (Social Sciences, Utrecht University); Dr. S. Ponzanesi (Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University) and Dr. K.M. Leander (Education, Vanderbilt, USA).

SIAS Summer Institutes 2007-2008. The SIAS Summer Institutes are designed to support the development of scholarly networks and collaborative projects among young scholars from Europe and the United States. The program seeks to explore theoretical, methodological, and empirical issues, promote the integration of approaches and interpretations from various disciplines into the participants’ research, review the state of research in that discipline, and identify promising areas for further research. The program will provide stipends and cover travel and lodging costs for both the European and the American meetings.
